Do not even *think* about buying Rocket German before you get all the facts!
What is Rocket German?
Rocket German is a comprehensive language software program created to teach anyone from beginners to more advanced students how to speak German. It is the best home study language software that I have used.
That being said, it definitely is not necessary to use a software for language learning. You could always:
- Move to Germany or Austria and be forced to learn the language.
- Buy German grammar books and try to teach yourself the langauge at home.
- Listen to subliminal tapes while lying in bed hoping that you will somehow subconsciously learn the langugage.
But Is It Possible to Learn with a Program like Rocket German?
Yes! Language software programs nowadays are really advanced and offer much more than an alternative to a textbook or a tape course.

Here is how the interface for the three software games looks like. You can test your vocabulary by matching pictures or audio clips to German words.
I enjoy the course for several reasons. On first place comes the humor with which the speakers present the material in the interactive audio course. I’ve attended many language classes and there is nothing worse than a dull and boring teacher. Another thing I like are the software games. They make learning fun and lighthearted. Hours pass without me feeling like I am doing a dreadfull homework or language exercise.
What Are the Cons of Using Rocket German?
The one drawback I found about the software is that a couple of the audio clips in the MegaAudio software game are mismatched. Honestly, this doesn’t distract from the learning process or hinder your progress. That being said, I’m sure Paul, the author of the program will have these errors corrected in the next edition, because it is such a polished product in all the other respects.
How Fast Can I Learn the Language with Rocket German?
Nothing that is worth achieveing comes easy. At least an hour a day of focused learning for several months will be necessary for a solid foundation of basic German. It is all up to you really. The key is to have fun and not view it as a chore. Rocket German really helps in that regard.
